Deep Dive: The House Always Wins: MGM Takes the Title on PPL Vegas 🎰

When a casino giant puts its name on your tournament, you’re not a niche sport anymore. You’re a line item.

MGM Resorts International is the title sponsor of the Pro Padel League’s first Las Vegas stop, Nov 18-21 at Dolby Live inside Park MGM. It’s the last regular-season stop of 2026, and all 10 teams (US, Canada, Mexico) are fighting for eight spots in the Miami Finals, Dec 3-6. The Las Vegas Smash finally play at home, there’s an exhibition court on the Bellagio Fountain Walk all week, and the Nov 21 final airs nationally on CNBC.

Deal value? Not disclosed. “Multi-year”? The release says it “lays the groundwork” for one. That’s a first date, not a ring.

The Primetime Take: Make no mistake: this is brand validation with neon lights. MGM sells the Strip to people with money to burn, and it just decided padel fans are those people. A court by the Bellagio fountains plus a CNBC final makes US pro padel look like a product, not a passion project. If “groundwork” turns into a contract, every brand still sitting on the fence just got its permission slip.

Quick Hitters of the Week

IONSport Joins the Anglo American Cup, and the Sponsor Stack Keeps Growing 📊

As we reported Oct 5, PlaySight signed on to broadcast the Anglo American Padel Cup. Now the data’s here too. IONSport is the Cup’s multi-year Official Scoring & Data Partner, running live scoring on every court at The Replay Club in Palm Beach County (Feb 4-6, 2027) and feeding PlaySight’s broadcast. It joins Playtomic, Babolat, VanEck and PlaySight, and the field grows from 64 to 104 players with a new University Division.

The Primetime Take: It was coming, now it’s here: a full sponsor stack months before a ball gets hit in Florida. Data deals are the unsexy money that makes a broadcast feel big-league.

College Padel League Launches, and Now It’s a Two-League Campus Race 🎓

The College Padel League launched Oct 23 with the PPL and five operators: Ultra Padel, Padel 39, Epic Padel, Padel N9ne and Bay Padel. It starts with 20+ universities and is aiming for 40+ by the end of Season One. Schools pair with the nearest club, so no campus courts are needed. Participation is covered at launch, and there’s a $20K prize pool at the Miami playoffs, Dec 3-5, with the title match at the PPL Finals.

The Primetime Take: As we reported Oct 5, the Wilson ACPL by Bela already planted a college flag. Now there are two structures chasing the same campuses. Competition for 20-year-olds means somebody thinks the next generation is worth paying for. Grab your popcorn and count the schools.

Aston Martin F1 Makes a Racket, Literally, in Austin 🏎️

Aston Martin Aramco F1 and Padeltek (part of the Paddletek Group) dropped three co-branded rackets and three cover bags during US Grand Prix week, with pickleball gear coming in 2027. The racket lists at $299.99. On Oct 22, the team threw an invite-only fan night at Padel Society Austin, with Jenson Button and Jak Crawford in the building.

The Primetime Take: F1 teams have the pickiest guest list in sports, and padel just made it. The team calls it the first formal F1 partnership with a padel or pickleball company. That’s their claim, and we’ll allow it. When race-week Austin is swinging rackets, padel’s officially aspirational.

Qatar Owns the Tour, and the New Money Keeps Stacking 🇶🇦💸

Start at the top. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi chairs Qatar Sports Investments (yes, the PSG owners) and Premier Padel. In Aug 2023, QSI bought World Padel Tour’s assets from Damm, terms undisclosed, and the two tours merged under FIP starting in 2024. He has called it “a historic moment for the sport of padel.” Below that, the checks keep coming. Rocket Padel raised €8M (~$9.0M), led by chairman Morten Bugge, for new clubs in East Croydon (9 courts) and Shepherd’s Bush (11 courts). Lyon’s Spash closed a €2M (~$2.25M) Series A from Vessoa Invest, GO Ventures and CoopVenture to put AI video in clubs, about 450 centers by its own count.

The Primetime Take: One Qatari owner on the pro tour, operators raising eight figures, and VCs funding the cameras. That’s a full capital stack, from the top of the tour down to the camera on court. And yes, as we flagged Oct 11, Sweden saw almost 90 padel companies go bankrupt in 2023 (Bloomberg, citing Creditsafe). The new money looks like it read that memo: build businesses, not just courts.
